So you want to learn to skate? This is where you start!
Learn to skate at Blackburn Ice Arena by enrolling in the NISA (National Ice Skating Association) Skate UK learn-to-skate programme for beginners of all ages which makes it a family event.
There are 10 skill levels which teach you how to stand up on the ice right through to doing a simple step sequence, learning a spin and a jump along the way.
Once you have attained Level 5 on the Skate UK programme you can join the Blackburn Skating School Ice Skating Club which meets once a month on a Saturday or Sunday from 4pm - 6pm. Find out more about the Club here.
Each stage has its own badge and certificate. You can work through the stages at your own pace as there is continuous assessment. So if you are a budding Olympic Champion you could move through the stages very quickly.
Once you have completed stage 10 you will be ready to obtain your “Passport” which will enable you to start progressing through the Skate UK Star Programme which consists of Bronze, Silver and Gold Awards and gives you tasters of the various ice disciplines.
When you have your Gold Award you will have the necessary skills to really enjoy your skating! |
